Florence incorporates 10 single-family townhouses on an infill lot in South Los Angeles, utilizing a new Los Angeles ordinance allowing small lot subdivision. Working on a series of sites within the city with developer Enterprise Homeownership Partners, Urban Studio designs to incorporate sustainable building principals into affordable housing. Here, the three storey homes comprise 1250 square feet, plus a 400 sq foot 2-car garage. On the ground floor is the garage and living room, with access to the yard and patio. The second floor consists of kitchen and dining areas, with a two-step elevation to define the master bedroom and bath areas. On the third floor are two bedrooms and bathrooms. The homes are configured into two rows of five with a common driveway in between and a landscape buffer around the entire perimeter. The design seeks to maximize use of space within each home and harmonize with the neighborhood while projecting a contemporary sensibility. |
